Since then it has grown into a highly developed beach resort with a mind boggling array of hotels, restaurants and shops. Its vibrant and exciting atmosphere is popular with the young and 'young-at-hearts'. To the north of Kuta, this area has attracted some of the more elegant style of hotels and contains a rather more up-market shopping atmosphere than Kuta. Some of these hotels face directly onto a fine white sand beach. Located between Kuta and the airport, Tuban is an even newer developed area including a sandy beach. The atmosphere is distinctly quieter than its rowdier neighbor though enjoying many of its facilities. This area south of Legian is slowly being developed and offers peace and rural tranquility and traditional villages with frequent ceremonies and festivities.
